freedom

J is in her late 90's and still manages to walk without the aid of a cane or walker.
(That's downright impressive I say)
Her thin white hair hangs straight down, cut just below her chin,
and she pins the side back with a little bobby pin.
She loves to talk about her husband Les and their years of marriage.
How they met in a small town where she worked as a waitress and he came in as a new RCMP officer.
He asked her mother's permission to have her show him around town one afternoon
And her mom said "yes" as long as he had her back before 10pm.
So sweet.

In the summer she wandered out on the patio to look at the flowers and tried to walk out the gate
only to discover that it was locked.
She came back completely up in arms and in this little tiny high pitched voice
called across the dining room:
"There's a lock on the gate!  A lock!!  Where do they think we are?!  Sing Sing?
I tell you what this is: This is wrong!
We should be free!
The PEOPLE should be FREE!!"
And she waved her arms around her head wildly.
