ladies who lunch

This afternoon the ladies descended on our house

ladies I've known since my teens

when we did shows together

took dance classes

 dreaming big dreams.

And now we're moms

with other dreams.

We reminisced and laughed 

catching up on each others lives

while the girls all played and baby Sam paced the floor holding onto his mamas fingers.

So precious.

And for the first time Zenya played with her friends and didn't need me.

In the past I have had to stay very close by

while she chose to play with me instead of other children

saying little

so unsure of what she was supposed to be doing.

But not today.

Today she proudly marched her friends into her room

and for the whole 4 hours they were here the sound of giggles came out the door

as they skipped back and forth serving food they'd made in her toy kitchen

played doctor

and who knows what else. 

She just played and played.

It was awesome to see her so confident

to see her communicating with her peers

being silly

being 4.
